In late summer/early fall there are football games, beach cleanups, and this year, two kayak adventures with Sheryl O’Connor. And some fine dining of course. We’ll start with a football game in Half Moon Bay that featured a spectacular sunset seen from the HMBHS stands through the trees on the opposite side of the field. Kayaking in Foster City is kind of an urban experience. Not only is it a completely unnatural, man-made body of water, it is lined with houses and concrete. But it was a nice day on the water and we explored the extent of this SF Bay phenomenon…

The annual California Coastal Beach Cleanup day was exactly one week before the equinox, another nice one, and here’s the cleanup, mostly at Tunitas with the Heirs to Our Oceans crew, but also Neil Panton with friends in San Gregorio…

Our next kayaking adventure was to the Elkhorn Slough at Moss Landing. I’ve been wanting to check it out for years, and thanks to Sheryl’s initiative, we got up early on a Sunday morning and went in and out with the tides. Everything they say about the sea otters is true – they’re cute and all over the place. It’s also full of birds, an amazing number of white egrets, and the pelicans in particular put on a show…

Oh yeah, the the Autumnal Equinox was actually on Saturday, September 22nd at 6:54 pm (Pacific), when I was hoping to have the LHPUSD websites (district + 3 schools) go live. Unfortunately, for various reasons, it took almost another week, and the websites became active on Friday, September 28th, AKA “Teachers’ Day,” mostly in China because it is also the alleged birthdate of Confucius. (For that reason alone, I’m glad we waited.) In any case, it’s a work in progress and many changes have and will be made.
